A STUDENT EMPOWERED by the LANGUAGE DEPARTMENT of
El Do Gold Secondary School will be able to:
* write a short story
*display excellent listening skills e.g. media opinion, responses
*excellent oral communication e.g. polite telephone conversation, debating skills, skills in expressing opinion, having your own voice in the national language and standard English
*excellent writing skills- put on paper what they express orally; excellent understanding and comprehension skills
* summarise in order to communicate briefly to the general public etc
* apply computer and technical skills to all the language skills
* use structures gained through general reading in his own form of writing, communication, painting, song etc
* function very well in different social settings
* speak reasonably well Standard English in many environments
* write a proper formal letter in varying context of application for job, apology, complaint, resignation etc
* fill out all types of forms applicable to age e.g. I.D., passport and driver's license
* write internal (precise) report writing
* develop a wider vocabulary- utilize and appreciate jargon
* follow instructions and directions
AND THEREFORE NEEDS TO:
* be exposed to all skills (being done presently within a lesson
* be exposed to a variety of styles, range or quality of vocabulary and media (written, aural and visual)
* have simulated lessons for all these skills
* be given particular phrases

A STUDENT NURTURED by the SPANISH DEPARTMENT of
El Do Gold Secondary School will be able to:
* write a short story in Spanish/present..preterite and imperfect
* must know the basics for each Spanish speaking country on command
* cook at least one Spanish dish
* read very well any piece of literature -pronunciation and a gist of the content- so that a native speaker might understand
* should be able to function in a Spanish speaking country in shopping, asking for and giving directions, making reservations at hotel etc, to get information on particular places
* to be ale to talk about themselves and their country
* to be able to function in society, fill out a form eg. passport, license, bank account
* be curious about visiting a Spanish speaking country for the sake of a different cultur
* be aware of the links to Hispanic countries/ Caricom/Latin America and be confident enough to want to work in these countries similar to European students all over Europe
* should have been in a "Hispanic - simulated atmosphere
* be comfortable with the language from having heard the language regularly (visit of personnel)
